Fairly traded products market in the U.S. - statistics & facts

The fairly traded products market, especially Fairtrade International, has experienced substantial growth over the past decade. The estimated retail sales of Fairtrade International products has grown globally from 830 million euros in 2004 to around 7.9 billion euros in 2016. The United States in particular generated about 994 million euros from Fairtrade International product retail sales in 2017. The United States ranked third in terms of retail sales, with Germany and the United Kingdom leading the ranking with sales of around 2.01 billion euros and 1.33 billion euros, respectively.

U.S. consumers have also began to adopt this trend; 25 percent tend to agree with the fact that organic fairly traded food and beverages are worth paying a little extra for.

The objective of the fairly traded products initiative is to enable sustainable development and community empowerment that will not only benefit the farmers and workers, but the consumers and the Earth as well.
